Follow the steps below to set up Direct Deposit through your my Social Security account:

  1. Log into your my Social Security account
  2. Go to the “Benefits and Payment Details” link (right side of the screen)
  3. Scroll down and click the “Update Direct Deposit” button 
  4. Chose if you are the owner or co-owner
  5. Enter your bank account info
  6. Select “Next
  7. Read over all the information you entered 
  8. Select “Submit
  9. Click “Done
  10. You can choose to schedule when your direct deposit information changes if you would like.

How To Check My Earning Records With The SSA

You can get your earning records from the SSA online or by mail. It is recommended that you view your earning records before applying for benefits. That way you can confirm your benefits will be calculated correctly.

How To Change My Address When I Move?

It is a requirement that you notify the SSA when you move. If you do not report your change of address in time or if you do not report your change of address at all you may lose your Social Security payments. 

You can change your address online by:

  1. You can visit the SSA’s website. 
  2. Once you are on their homepage, click “Sign in/Sign up” from there click “my Social Security”. That will take you to the “my Social Security” login page. 
  3. If you do not have a my Social Security account you can create one. To create your my Social Security account you will need a valid email address, your SSN, and a mailing address. 
  4. If you already have a my Social Security account, go ahead and log in. Once you are logged into your Social Security account you can go to “My Profile”. 
  5. From your profile page, you can view your personal information. You can change your address from this page. 
  6. You select “Update Contact Information” then type in your new address. You select when you want the update to go through. Make sure the address you typed in is error-free and then select “Submit”.
  7. If you have moved abroad you can change your address online. This is the easiest method for someone living outside of the USA.  If you cannot change your address online you may need to phone the SSA.
